Testing of soils for agricultural purposes. In agriculture, a soil test is the analysis of a soil sample to determine nutrient content, composition and other characteristics, including contaminants. Tests are usually performed to measure the expected growth potential of a soil.

Soils testing for civil engineering projects. In the field of civil engineering, nearly all projects are built onto, or into, the ground. Unlike other materials, which are subjected to strict controls during manufacture or processing, soil is usually used in the natural condition.

Durability testing on a wide range of materials. Durability testing evaluates how well a product holds up when put to the test beyond its expected or designated function.

Geotechnical testing. Soillab specialize in the geotechnical testing of soils, rocks, aggregates and site works/testing as well as drilling services.

Materials surveys for civil engineering projects. Soillab's construction material testing and special structural inspection capabilities include all field inspection and material testing required to be performed on most construction projects.

GEOTECHNICAL

1Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering, concerned with the engineering behaviour of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering includes investigating existing subsurface conditions and materials; assessing risks posed by site conditions; designing earthworks and structure foundations; and monitoring site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction.

SANAS

2The South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) is recognised by the South African Government as the single National Accreditation Body that gives formal recognition that Laboratories, Certification Bodies, Inspection Bodies, Proficiency Testing Scheme Providers and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) test facilities are competent to carry out specific tasks. We are a proud member.

SOIL COMPACTION

3Soil compaction is a form of physical degradation resulting in densification and distortion of the soil where biological activity, porosity and permeability are reduced, strength is increased and soil structure partly destroyed. Compaction can reduce water infiltration capacity and increase erosion risk by accelerating run-off.

SATISFIED CLIENTS

4Soillab’s list of clients include many public authorities, consulting engineers, contractors, project developers, mining houses as well as many smaller businesses such as nurseries and farms.

Additional testing is also available for individual needs. Our List of Services provides more details on these optional tests.
